- What do I do if I'm having
a problem submitting my homework?
Contact Jim at holler@uky.edu immediately.
Describe the problem in detail and the precise symptoms that Blackboard
exhibits. Be sure and mention the type of connection, the
browser, and the type of computer that you are using.
- How many times can I
submit my Blackboard homework?
You may submit your homework three times as
you like. You may not quit once you have begun a homework
session. If you do, you'll be locked out and will not be able to
repeat the current attempt. If there is some technical reason why
you exited the attempt, we forgive two of the homeworks, and the
purpose of this is to compensate you for any such occurences. If
you have questions about this, please contact Jim at your convenience.
Lectures
- When do you place the
lecture slides on the Web?
Normally, the lecture slides are installed
on the Web as soon as possible and before we start each chapter.
Occasionally, it is not possible to get them on the Web prior to the
first lecture on a given topic, so please be patient. The slides
will always appear.
- When will the RealVideo lectures be available on the Web?
They will be available as soon as possible
(but no sooner) via a link on this
page.
Exams
- Where can I find seating
charts for the exams?
Seating charts will be posted on the on the
Blackboard Web
site under Course Information/Exam Materials/105 Exam X Seating
Chart, and a hard copy will be posted on the bulletin board outside CP
139.
- What do I need to bring to
exams?
Bring a cheap, basic calculator, a few #2 or softer pencils, and a color photo ID.
- Will I have access to a
periodic table on the exam?
You will always have a periodic
table attached to your exam complete with atomic weights, atomic
numbers, and some fundamental physical constants. If you'd like
to see a copy of the actual table in Acrobat Reader
format, click here.
If you want a printed copy, print from Acrobat Reader in landscape
format.
- For Exam 1, what
conversion factors do I need to know?
Know all of the common conversion factors:
in/ft, ft/yd, ft/mi, etc. In addition, you must know three
metric/English conversion factors: one each for length, mass(weight), and volume. Finally, I
suggest my favorite conversion factors.
1.00 lb = 454 g
1 in. = 2.54 cm (infinite number of sig. figs. Why?)
1.06 qt. = 1.00 L
1 gram = 1 mole amu
- I have printed and
examined many of the old exams that you make available to us on your Exam
Materials web page, but some of the questions don't seem to fit the
material that we've covered in class. What do I do about that?
Inevitably, as different instructors using
different books teach CHE 105, somewhat different topics will be
covered for the various exams in the course. As you prepare
yourself for the exams, you should be able to pick out questions from
old exams that represent the material that we've covered in class this
semester. Use the old exams for what they are intended: to give you a
general idea of the types of questions that I might ask.
