Joseph B. Miller

Joseph Miller earned a B.S. degree in biology from the University of Minnesota and worked in both biochemistry and plant pathology research programs at the University of Kentucky until 1991, when he began his current career in librarianship. He received his MSLS degree from the University of Kentucky in 1992 and was appointed to a faculty position in the University Library System at that time, where he serves the computing and information needs of the School of Library and Information Science. His activities in the school include the management of the SLIS Information Center collections, local area network and web site administration, and the delivery of technology workshops to school and public libraries in the state in association with the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives and the Kentucky Department of Education. He also teaches several courses in the SLIS, including LIS636 Microcomputers in Libraries and Information Centers and LIS638 Internet Technologies and Information Services.

Mr Miller has published work in both biology and library science. His current research interests center around the configuration and application of computer technology in libraries and how libraries are providing local access to Internet resources. A recent publication is "What's in a Name?", Technology Connection, 4:20-22, December, 1997.

Joe is active in a number of professional organizations and is currently president of the Kentucky chapter of SLA. A few of his personal interests include woodworking, canoeing, hiking, gardening, mystery novels, and the classic comedies of the 30's and 40's.
