In the spirit of #SharetheLex, the marketing team compiled a list of our favorite local places to eat! Whether you’re craving great breakfast food or a spicy dinner, we’ve got suggestions for you.
Gumbo Ya Ya
For a change of pace from the also fantastic Bourbon n’ Toulouse, try Gumbo Ya Ya’s amazing Cajun food! Their food, made with fresh and local produce, is sure to give your taste buds a kick, and for a great price.
Gyroz Mediterranean Eatery and Market
If you are a fan of Greek and Mediterranean food, this is the spot for you. They have fantastic kabab sandwiches, hummus, and the best gyros in Lexington. Also, if you are looking for a great lunch special you can’t go wrong with Gyroz’s: gyros meat over seasoned rice and a Greek salad, all for just $4.99!
Ramsey’s makes you feel like you’re having a home cooked meal, served up in huge portions. Everything about this restaurant makes you feel like you are at home. From the ambiance, friendly wait staff, and food. Ramsey’s is a Kentucky tradition with four locations in the Lexington area.
Han Woo Ri
This is my favorite place in Lexington—they serve amazing Korean food. Though the service has decreased since their recent remodel, they still offer the best Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap, a signature Korean dish.
Stella’s Kentucky Deli
The sandwiches here are killer, and the specials are always good.
Great Thai food, served as hot or mild as you’d like.
The food at Alfalfa comes from fresh and local ingredients. They offer specials everyday, but a local favorite is the blueberry buckwheat pancakes, which are awesome.
Shakespeare and Co.
This restaurant has a unique layout and décor filled with pastel colors. Every piece of furniture and every fixture is handcrafted. I like to enjoy my food and drinks on one of the many Victorian styled couches—by far my favorite place to sit.
One reason I love Charlie Brown’s is that they also have a lot of couches. It’s a comfortable place to have lunch or dinner and catch up with friends. The back patio is a nice place to sit when the weather is good.
Marrikkas is the only authentic German restaurant in Lexington. They are home to an array of delicious appetizers, side dishes and German cuisine. My favorite dish is Currywurst, which is German sausage in a spicy curry sauce, served with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. Also, German's love beer so there's a lot of that.
Ellos on Broadway
This hole-in-the-taco joint offers fresh and filling Latino food. They offer tacos and burritos however you like and also get a free can of soda or bottle of water with every combo! They have a Taco Cart that can be found around town, you can track where their cart will be on Facebook and Twitter.
Limstone Blue is a refreshing addition to downtown Lexington. They support Kentucky Proud products and have a collection of unique sandwiches and salads. Not to mention, they have a Mac and Cheese of the day, which is a reason to visit in itself.
Willie's Locally Known
This is a hole in the wall I found while looking for great barbeque, and they definitely delivered. I love their pulled pork and their BBQ cheese fries.
This restaurant is the best of fine dining with a laid-back atmosphere. The food is absolutely wonderful, but you don’t have to worry too much about dressing up for the occasion. They also have a great patio so you can enjoy the beautiful weather while you dine. They also serve Kentucky Proud ingredients in their dishes.
Josie’s is a great Lexington breakfast staple. I love grabbing brunch here on Sunday’s with all of my friends. Everything from the tables to the coffee mugs is eccentric here. Plus, they serve up an amazing egg white omelet!
Smashing offers fantastic pizzas and salads, and with less guilt than most pizza places! Their Neapolitan style pizza is light and fresh—try the Margherita pizza. I love the Neapolitan sauce.
Great Bagel, open only for breakfast and lunch, offers fantastic bagels, sandwiches and more. From a plain toasted bagel to a fancy bagel sandwich, you really can’t go wrong.
El Toro Mexican Restaurant actually has one location in Lexington and one in Louisville, but it’s my favorite Mexican restaurant by far. Fast service, yummy chips and queso, and great drink specials make El Toro pretty awesome.
