Academic Enhancement (AE) was created in 2004, in response to the recommendation from the University of Kentucky’s 2002 Provost Task Force on First-Year Initiatives to “establish a student resource center.” AE is purposefully designed to enhance the scholarship of any student and is situated within the Division of Undergraduate Education
The department has occupied its current space in the Complex Commons Building since it moved from Young Library in January 2007. Since that time, several new programs have been added to the department, student access has grown considerably, and additional staff (particularly student staff) have been added. Academic Enhancement remains true to its mission of academic support by fostering a culture of student-centered, evidence-based decision making and development. Programs and services are intentionally student-centric and department leadership staff employ a holistic framework in understanding student culture on campus.
