The Academic Preparation Program partners, as well as the entire University of Kentucky community, are committed to supporting students as they transition to UK. Using an evidence-based approach, the APP process is designed to support students before they even begin their careers at UK:
Students are initially identified based on ACT/SAT sub-scores.
Students whose scores do not demonstrate readiness in certain areas, specifically reading, writing, or math, receive a Deferred Admission Decision letter from UK’s Office of Undergraduate Admission and information about how their application could be enhanced. Applications are reconsidered on a regular basis.
The Office of Undergraduate Admission makes the admission decision, notifies students, and students register for an Advising Conference.
Students may receive information about placement tests they should take before coming to an Advising Conference. Academic Enhancement administers placement testing in reading, writing, and math.
Students whose placement test scores do not demonstrate readiness are automatically enrolled in the APP and UK 101. These students are also assigned an advisor in a few specific colleges, typically Undergraduate Studies or Arts and Sciences.
Students enrolled in the APP receive exclusive access to successful, high quality workshops and other programs.
