The Historical Period in Kentucky spans from the late 18th century into the 20th century. In the late 18th century, Euro-Americans and African-Americans arrived in Kentucky and established defensive residences to protect themselves during this uncertain era. After the Revolutionary War, the settlers began to establish towns, mills, iron furnaces, and farms. In 1792, Kentucky became the fifteenth state.
