Interaction with American Students

One of the hallmarks of the Intensive English Program at
the University of Kentucky is the high degree of interaction with American
students. Throughout each session, students from the Intensive English Program
may have several joint classes with American students, especially UK 101, the
Freshman Seminar. The purpose of these classes is for English conversation and
cultural exchange. In addition to UK 101, there are other classes in the
School of Education and the Design Program that often invite our students to
visit their classes and interact with American students.
Joining one of the many campus organizations is an
excellent way to experience American culture. There are many special interest
clubs. Another way for international students at the University of Kentucky to
interact with American students is to join campus volunteer organizations that
help less fortunate local residents and institutions.
Living in Smith Hall, the Global Learning Community, a residence hall with
both international and domestic students in almost equal measure, give
international students a perfect opportunity to learn about American culture
and customs. We recommend this for all new international ESL and undergraduate
students.
