Appointment Policy
The Writing Center assists University
of Kentucky students, faculty, and staff with the process of writing in any
discipline and for any purpose. We offer free individual and group
consultations on any writing project at any stage in the writing process.
Undergraduate consulting appointments last thirty minutes and graduate students
and faculty appointments are an hour in length. Clients are encouraged to set
up an appointment online or by calling us during open hours, but we also offer
drop in appointments on a first come first serve basis. We do not accept
appointments by email or on our phone answering service.
Although we are happy to discuss
grammar if you have specific grammar concerns, we are not an editing
service. If you work with us on a single
piece of writing through several sessions, there may well come a time when it's
appropriate to focus on grammar, punctuation, and other editing matters. As a
general rule, however, that's not where we start in our responses to your work.
We believe that the best way to help
you write a better paper or report is to help you think in productive ways
about the purpose, audience and organizational structure of your writing. And, while we can make no guarantees about
grades, we believe we can help you develop as a writer in some small way in
each session.
