HTML Tutorial
Go to http://www.uky.edu/AS/English/writprog/htmlhelp/ and use the suggestions there for creating a basic web page.
Going Online
To put a page on the web for others to access, you must transfer the relevant files from your PC to the server. Think of this as moving files to UK's PC.
- Go to sweb.uky.edu and make yourself an account.
- Download Core FTP Lite (clicking the link will download the file from the Core FTP website) and follow the directions to install the program and run it
- Log onto the system using Core FTP. You can put whatever you want in the site name, but type "sweb.uky.edu" in the Host/IP/URL box. Put your user name and password in the corresponding boxes.

- Your webspace will be at the url http://sweb.uky.edu/~username/.
- Your web page urls will depend on the file-folder system you set up, as you create folders (using the new folder button
) within the "www" folder reserved for you on the sweb server.

- The window on the left shows the files on your PC, while the window on the right shows the files on the sweb server.
- You might go into "www", for instance, and create a folder for your class page called "eng203" or "203"; so that the url for a web page in that folder would be http://sweb.uky.edu/~username/203/webpage.html.
- Or, you might create a set of master folders such as "courses" and "personal".
- To transfer a file or a folder from your PC to the server, make sure you are in the proper folder on the server side, then highlight the files that you want to transfer, and click the right arrow (in between the two windows).
- If you have recently edited the file being transfered, be sure to click "Refresh" before you transfer, so that the most recent version of the file gets sent.
