UK E-Mail Options
U-Connect E-mail Address
- All UK faculty, staff, and students can have a U-Connect e-mail address: userid@uky.edu.
- Mail sent to this address can be accessed via software such as Eudora, Pine, or MSOutlook, or by the UK Webmail service--accessible at http://u-connect.uky.edu.
- If you choose to use your current e-mail software rather than the Webmail interface, you may adjust the settings in that software and within the UK Account Management System so that the e-mail sent to the U-connect address is forwarded to your Eudora, MSOutlook, etc.
- The instructions below will show you how to set up your account accordingly.
University E-mail Address
- You are also eligible for an additional, more personalized University e-mail address: (something like) FirstName.LastName@uky.edu.
- This University e-mail address is not a "full-fledged" account, in that it merely acts as a clearing house for your e-mail--using an address that more clearly identifies you as the sender and allows for less confusion when sharing your contact information with friends, clients, and colleagues.
- Mail sent to this address can be forwarded automatically either to your U-connect address (userid@uky.edu), accessible via the Webmail service (http://u-connect.uky.edu), or to your existing outside provider (userid@provider.com), accessible via your current e-mail software.
- The instructions below will show you how to make use of this option.

Activating Your U-Connect E-mail Account

Instructions:
- If you are a faculty member or a part-time instructor, please skip down to Managing Your Account in order to adjust the settings on your e-mail account.
- Once enrolled at UK, you will have a unique UKId (social security number) and PAC (4-digit personal access code).
- Your PAC must be changed before you can successfully log in to the account management system.
- Go to webUK, the web interface for UK's Student Information System and click on the webUK icon.

- Log in using your UKid (social security #) and your PAC (4-digit personal access code, set by default to the month and day of your birth).

- If prompted, change your PAC using the interface provided.
- If not, choose "Personal Profile" and then "Change PAC" in order to access the interface.

- Once your PAC is changed, go to UK's User Account Management System to find out what your userid is for your U-Connect e-mail account.
- Navigate the menu buttons, first choosing "Sign On".

- Clicking "Sign On" will launch the window for entering your UKId and PAC.

- Once you have signed on, click "Inquire" and note the userid for your U-Connect e-mail account.
- You will then have an address (typically based upon letters from your last name and some random number(s)): userid@uky.edu.
- You will also have (by default) an 8-character password: u$XXXXXX ("u" followed by a dollar sign and the last 6 digits of your UKId.
- The next step is to manage your account, changing your password as soon as possible.

Managing Your E-Mail Account
- The U-Connect@UK Account Manager is the interface through which you may change your password, activate a new account, and/or arrange for your e-mail to be forwarded to an outside account.
- Login to the Account Manager using your userid and password (likely set by default to u + $ + last 6 digits of social security #).

Changing Your Password
- Keeping a safe and secure password will protect your files and programs, as well as your privacy.
- You should change your password from the default (u$ + the last six digits of your social security #).
- Once you are logged in to the Account Manager, select "Change your password" and follow the instructions provided.

Changing Your University E-Mail Address

Forwarding Your E-Mail
- You may choose to use an outside provider for your primary e-mail address, in which case, your U-Connect account can be configured so that it simply forwards all mail to your Yahoo, Hotmail, or other outside address.
- If you wish to use the University e-mail account service, describe above, you may use it to forward all mail to your U-Connect account, or to an outside account.

- Once you are logged in to the Account Manager, select "Change Email Forwarding Address".

- Fill out the form (sample below) according to your needs.

Requesting and/or Managing a Listserv
- Listservs can help you send announcements, assignments, readings, comments, etc. to your students and also allow them to carry out online discussions on their own.
- You can have multiple listservs running concurrently, managing each according to its particular role.
- Go to the UK Listserv Home Page to request a new listserv or to manage a current one.
- Follow the instructions provided, and the list will be ready to use within 24-48 hours.
- There are of course different options for managing a list, but a typical way is for the instructor to add and delete all subscribers.
