Computerized placement tests are now fully operational for the languages of French, German, and Spanish, which allow freshmen to test into their appropriate level in just 20-30 minutes. Using the World Wide Web you can access the holdings of libraries all over the globe, consult course listings at other universities, even pull down an image of today's newspaper, anywhere from Germany to Mexico. Students can access the World Wide Web in the Business Information Center (BIC) on the first floor of the Business & Economics Building, with over 30 PCs hooked up and available right now, or from any of the other campus microlabs. Three "smart classrooms" are in operation in the Whitehall Classroom Building; equipped with the latest capabilities in interactive multimedia, these new classrooms will allow students to improve their language skills in ways which were unimaginable just a decade ago. With the creation of new "globalized" economies (of which NAFTA is one example) along with the growth of new information technologies, a degree in Foreign Languages and International Economics at the University of Kentucky could be your passport to success. |
