Awards and Current Research


 
Gil Latz has been selected as a Research Scholar by the United States Fulbright Commission for the 2001-02 academic year. This award was granted for his proposed project on Comparative International Research on Agricultural Land-use History and Forest Management Practices: The Tuscan Estate of Castello di Spannocchia and Vermont’s Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park. Affiliation in Italy will be with the University of Florence.

Tom Leinbach, Department of Geography was invited to serve as a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore from January to April, 2001. During this period he carried out research on problems associated with Indonesia's rural economy. In addition Leinbach has received an award from the CRE, NGS (info) as well as the National Science Foundation (info).

At the 2001 AAG annual meeting held in New York, Dr. Thomas Leinbach of the Department of Geography at the University of Kentucky and Dr. Bimal Paul of the Department of Geography at Kansas State University recieved "Distinguished Service Award" from the Asian Geography Specialty Group.

Yehua Dennis Wei (University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee) has been awarded an NSF Grant for the proposal "Business Organization and Network Relations of Foreign Manufacturing Ventures in the Yangtze Delta Region, China" (with C.K. Leung). Co-PI. 2001-2004.
