My PhD work in geography arises somewhat unconventionally, namely following a career in entrepreneurial business development. University of Kentucky Geography offers both a welcoming environment for second careerists such as myself, as well as the plurality of analytical perspectives necessary for pursuing geographical research in petroleum.  My interests in oil encompass not only political-economic matters, but also oil's imbrications with political ecology, cultural landscapes, and social networks.
