Jon is second-year Master’s student and is interested in a variety of issues pertaining to political geography.  Specifically, Jon is interested in the politics and political ecology of development and resistance to these practices in Southern Mexico and Central America.  His interests are influenced by work in social theory concerning questions of exclusion and discourse.  His Masters work explores the creation of space by the Mexican government through the mapping and construction of the San Cristobal-Palenque superhighway in Chiapas, Mexico and resistance to these efforts by indigenous communities who feel threatened by it.
