Jon is a PhD student and is interested in a variety of issues relating to political geography and political ecology.  Specifically, Jon is concerned with the politics and political ecology of development and resistance to development projects in Southern Mexico and Central America.  For his Masters work Jon studied the implementation of neoliberal governmentality by the Mexican government through the mapping and construction of the San Cristobal-Palenque superhighway in Chiapas, Mexico and resistance to these efforts by indigenous communities who felt threatened by it.  He is currently interested in the implementation of forest carbon projects in Chiapas as a means to mitigate global climate change and the community-level effects of such projects.
