Taylor Shelton is currently an M.A. student in the Department of Geography. A lifelong Kentuckian, he earned his B.A. in geography and political science from UK in December 2008.
Taylor's primary interests lie in economic and urban geography, regional development, and the social impacts of technology. His master's thesis research looks at the material and discursive (re)construction of the Coldstream Research Campus. A high-tech research facility and business incubator operated by the University of Kentucky, Coldstream has continually struggled with financial self-sufficiency, despite being originally conceived as a way for the Commonwealth and the university to capitalize on the knowledge economy.
In addition to these interests, he continues to work with Dr. Matthew Zook on the geographies of user-generated content. Much of this work can be found on the project blog at http://www.floatingsheep.org
