Assignment #3:  Memorize the order and spelling of the following intervals of Geologic Time.   See the charts on page 16 of the text and elsewhere, but go by these in case of conflict.

We will have questions on these for you to fill out and answer on each quiz from next week through Oct. 15.   If you get all the questions right on any one week, you get the 5 points for this assignment.  If you never get all the questions right on one of those quizzes (Quiz 2a,2b, 3a, 3b or 4a) then you will get a zero for the assignment.  No partial credit.  Learn these now.


1) Eons of Geologic Time (from oldest to youngest):
Hadean, Archean, Proterozoic, Phanerozoic

2) Eras of the Phanerozoic (from oldest to youngest):
Paleozoic, Mesozoic, Cenozoic

3) Periods of the Phanerozoic (from oldest to youngest, and know which Era each belongs to):
Cambrian Ordovician Silurian Devonian Mississippian Pennsylvanian Permian Triassic Jurassic Cretaceous Tertiary Quaternary

4) Epochs of the Cenozoic:
Paleocene, Eocene, Oligocene, Miocene, Pliocene, Pleistocene, Holocene
