This poor fly happens to be a female. As is common with female insects who get caught and trapped by the ooze, she has lain a single egg in the resin. Most will lay a string of eggs that trail behind them, never to see life. Numerous varieties of flies appear in amber. Usually it's males who get caught in a mating swarm, sometimes hundreds at a time. She is of family Diptera.
