The Archean period of time was a hot, lava-filled, volcanic era. Soon after, most of the lava and hot atmospheric gasses drifted into space and the earth cooled down. Then a truly amazing thing happened, the first life on Earth formed! Small bacteria and algae inhabited the Earth. Many rocks also formed; slate, marble and other types of metamorphic rocks.
