The Department of History at the University of Kentucky offers course work and training for undergraduate and graduate students in fields from antiquity to the present. The department’s 30 faculty members teach the history of the Americas and Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Members of the department are involved in a wide range of interdisciplinary programs, such as Women’s studies, American studies, African American studies, Latin American studies, and social theory.

They also teach in the University’s Honors Program and the Gaines Center for the Humanities. Each year about twenty percent of UK undergraduate students take history courses. The department has about 70 graduate students in residence and has been training graduate students for over 70 years.
