Department of SociologyDirector of Undergraduate Studies in Sociology: The DUS advises Sociology Minors and incoming Sociology Majors. Students may also see the DUS, in addition to their regular faculty advisor, to seek advise related to the Sociology program, course of study, university requirements, graduation procedures, departmental awards, scholarships, internships and study abroad opportunities, career advice, graduate and professional school, and other sources of support on campus. The DUS is located at 1557 POT and may be reached at 849-257-6882 or soc247@uky.edu.
Faculty advisors: All Sociology Majors will be assigned a regular faculty advisor after they enter the program. In some cases, this will be the DUS; but, in most cases, it will not. Students must see their faculty advisors during the advanced registration period to have their advisor holds lifted so that they can register for classes. Students can identify their faculty advisory by consulting the advisor lists posted on the Undergraduate Bulletin Board by the water fountain on the 15th floor. They may also consult the DUS or Liz Steeves (1515 POT) for clarification of their advisor assignment. Faculty advisors assist students in monitoring their progress toward their degree, selecting courses, and designing a learning program that meets their needs. Like the DUS, faculty advisors can provide information on careers, graduate and professional school, university requirements, a variety of learning opportunities, and other sources of support on campus.
