A&S Scholarship Awards

Arts and Sciences Dean's Scholarship - Funded by annual gifts from alumni and friends of the College, these scholarships are awarded each year on the basis of outstanding academic achievement and potential for continuing academic excellence. These awards vary in the number awarded as well as the amount..

The Maddie Lee Walker Scholarship - Established in 1984 by Mrs. Mary Walker Fenley in honor of her sister, Maddie Lee Walker, this scholarship is a $2,000 award to an outstanding student in the College of Arts and Sciences.

The Susan Belmore Scholarship - Established in memory of Dr. Susan Belmore, Associate Professor in Psychology, this $2,000 award is made annually.

The Andrew Jackson Gardner Scholarship - Established in 1987 by Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Gardner in memory of his brother. Mr. Gardner, '35-AB mathematics, was a naval aviator who died as he flew over the Pacific Ocean in WWII. The award is $1,500.

The Cleveland Scholarship - Established in 1987 through the estate of Ernest Lynn Cleveland, '38-BA Physics and '40-MS Physics, in memory of his aunt, Bess Cleveland, who was employed by the university and with whom he lived during his undergraduate days. The $1,500 award is made to a senior.

The Kash Senior Premedical Scholarship - Established in 1986 through the estate of Mr. Kash, the Vernon O. and Lillie D. Kash Scholarship is awarded to seniors planning to enroll in medical school. The award is for $700.

The A. J. Whitehouse Premedical Award - This $100 award, funded through an endowment established by Dr A. J. Whitehouse, is made annually to an A&S senior planning to attend medical school.

The Whitlow Scholarship - The Myrtle M. and Orvan R. Whitlow Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman student who is a native Kentuckian with a minimum 3.5 gpa, 30 ACT Composite, and demonstrated financial need. This $2,500 annual award is renewable and becomes available periodically.

The David and Lauri Perry Scholarship - This $750 award is made to an incoming freshman with a minimum 3.5 high school gpa, demonstrated extracurricular activities, and potential for further academic success. The award is renewable.

The Robert B. and Helen P. Jewell Educational Foundation - This $5,000 renewable award is made to an incoming freshman who is a Kentucky resident with demonstrated financial need. Eligible candidates from the University Academic Scholarship program will be invited to apply for this Scholarship. This award is renewable and becomes available periodically.

The Ralph M. Shearer Scholarship - This $1,000 scholarship honors Mr. Shearer, a businessman and community leader in Pulaski County who was dedicated to the development and nurturing of the character and talend of the local youth. Preference to students from Pulaski or Wayne County.

The Charles W. Hammond Scholarship in Chemistry - Established in 2004 through Mr. Hammond's estate, this award is made to students from Lewis County or the adjacent counties. Mr. Hammond earned a BA Chemistry degree from UK in 1935.
