About My Work

As a researcher, the projects I find most rewarding are those that (1) are specifically requested by decision makers in the state, and (2) require a combination of economic reasoning and careful data analysis.

Teaching Philosophy

I put a priority on combining theory and hands-on analysis in class. At the undergraduate level, students benefit from combining economic concepts with data collection and spreadsheet skills. At the graduate level, there is more emphasis on statistical analysis, but in both cases the ability to think critically comes from personal experience with real data. I urge all students to make international study a part of their education. Few educational experiences are as intense, memorable, or beneficial both professionally and personally.
