- Welcome Kathy Roe
- Welcome to new Conference Coordinator – Kathy Roe. Kathy will be working with Dr. Craig Infanger starting on the UK Income Tax Seminar Program. She will be on a part-time schedule until tax season begins in the fall.
- New Department Web Page Committee Members
- We are pleased to announce the following individuals have agreed to serve on the newest version of the department's web page committee: Alison Davis, Greg Halich, Karen Pulliam, Mehdi Saghaian, Becky Simmermacher (from Ag Communications) and Will Snell. Alison will chair the committee. Thanks to each of you for agreeing to serve.
- Hu Is Excellent
- Wuyang Hu was awarded a grant from the Barnhart Fund for Excellence from the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture. The grant is for $1,000 for "Participation in Student Academic Competitions at the National AAEA Meetings" in 2008. Way to go, Dr. Hu!
- Welcome Sara Williamson
- Welcome to new Senior Extension Associate – Sara Williamson. Sara comes to us from the Marketing Division with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. She will be working with Dr. Tim Woods in support of the New Crop Opportunity Center, Kentucky Market Maker, the Kentucky Horticulture Council market research grant, and a variety of other extension marketing initiatives. She will be in office 407.
- Graduate Student News
- Former UK Graduate Student Victoria Burke demonstrates her amazing music talent in a video which can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_HbO6_vPhc. Victoria's graduate work included various projects with Rural Health Works and she is planning on coming back to the University of Kentucky during the summer.
- Gamma Sigma Delta Banquet
- Please join Gamma Sigma Delta National Agricultural Fraternity on March 25, 2008 at 6:00 pm. The banquet will be held at the Fayette County Extension Office off Red Mile Road. Tickets can be purchased for $23.00 and can be paid to Dr. Mike Reed (Gamma Sigma Delta Department Representative) Dr. David Freshwater (Gamma Sigma Delta Treasurer) or Dr Larry Jones (GSD President). They are located in the C E Barnhart Building; Rooms 308, 409 and 318, respectively.
- Going Places!
- At the end of February, Jerry Skees led his AEC 626: Agriculture and Economic Development class of ten graduate students to Washington, D.C. While there, they attended several seminars at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the World Bank.

Chuck Corby: New Staff Links Representative
Chuck Corby has been named as the replacement for Patt Thompson on the Staff Links Committee. Patt did a wonderful job representing Agricultural Economics, however her term has expired. Staff Links is a College of Agriculture staff committee that works to "improve communication between administration, faculty, staff and students of the University of Kentucky, College of Agriculture & Human Environmental Sciences" (Staff Links Mission Statement). If any of you have any issues concerning University of Kentucky employment/issues please submit them to Chuck.

On February 5, our department celebrated Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday with a potluck luncheon. Good times and good food were shared by all. Lee Meyer will be bringing the cake next year!
Scenes from Linda Inman's Second Retirement
Linda Inman has retired from the department for a second time! After retiring last June, Linda agreed to help Craig Infanger and Carol Eads with the UK Income Tax Program. Prior to working with the Tax Program, Linda dedicated 21 years of wonderful service to the University of Kentucky and spent 17 of those years in Agricultural Economics.
