Undergraduate Program

Business with an Agricultural Twist

The scope of Agricultural Economics might be broader than you think. We have changed over the years from a Farm Economics department that included rural sociology to one that deals with the entire 'farm-to-fork' food system, environmental and natural resources issues, and local and international economic development.

We are an applied department, especially in our teaching. Employers tell us about their workforce development needs, and how how important experiential education is. All our incoming students are now required to have a structured internship, independent research, entrepreneurial activity, or education abroad experience before they graduate. This exposure to 'real-world' business has given our students a wonderful head-start in the workplace and an appreciation for the applied aspects of research for those who chose to continue an academic career.

The Agricultural Economics major offers two options: Agribusiness Management and Food Marketing or Agricultural Economics. Students choosing the Agribusiness Management and Food Marketing option must complete a business minor. Ask your advisor about the differences in the options.
