My research centers around understanding limitations imposed on grain crop (corn, wheat, soybean) productivity by soil conditions. Focussed on dealing with limitations due to inadequate water, nutrition or oxygen (compaction/percolation less than precipitation plus runon water). Field experimental treatments include tillage; rotation; fertilizer rate, timing, source and placement; manure rate and timing; interactions among these and other crop management factors (cultivar, row spacing, seeding rate, etc.); and the consideration of these at landscape scale (for application in precision agriculture). |
