AGR 510.  Forage Management and Utilization.  University of Kentucky.
Co-instructor.  3 credits.  This course is designed for upper level undergraduate 
students and graduate students in agricultural sciences.  The subject matter is 
tailored to the class composition which often includes a diversity of backgrounds.
The scientific basis of growth and development of herbage, post-harvest 
physiology of hay and silage, quality of herbage, and utilization by hind- 
and foregut fiber digesters are emphasized.  We also relate grassland 
management practices to basic sciences.  Typically most students are 
from agronomy and animal sciences (equine, ovine and bovine).  In 
response to student requests we modified the laboratory program as
follows:  Library research assignments were substituted for seminar 
presentations and a class field experiment was deleted because inclement
weather often prevented its completion.  The additional laboratory sessions
 made available by this change were allocated to weed and herbage plant 
identification in the field, field studies of grassland systems and field and 
laboratory research methods, procedures, equipment and instrumentation.
