Pre-Veterinary Studies
in Animal & Food Sciences

Students interested in becoming veterinarians may enroll in the College of Agriculture at the University of Kentucky and complete their requirements for admission to veterinary school.  There is no "pre-veterinary" major at the University of Kentucky.  Rather, students enroll in a specific major and complete the requirements for the specific veterinary school to which they intend to apply.  It is strongly recommended that all pre-veterinary students choose a degree goal early in their college career.

The Animal Sciences major provides excellent training in pre-veterinary studies.  Most students interested in becoming veterinarians will take the Pre-Professional Study Option.  This is a rigorous curriculum that satisfies many of the requirements for admission into veterinary school.  Nevertheless, it is important to note that there are additional requirements and students are urged to consult with their academic advisor to design the most appropriate program.

Further information on Pre-Veterinary Studies can be found at the Student Services site and the Department of Veterinary Sciences site.
