The Agricultural Biotechnology Program is a rigorous program for students interested in modern approaches to the life sciences. The program has three components that separate it from most majors in the biological sciences. First, we strongly emphasize genetics as the central element common to all of biotechnology. Our students take Introductory Genetics, Introduction to Molecular Genetics, Introduction to Population Genetics and Experimental Methods in Biotechnology. Second, we believe that there is no substitute for first hand exposure to, and experiences in biotechnology. The program has important courses every year in biotechnology that introduce students to the field, expose them to active researchers, train students in research and presentation methods and finally engage them in a significant research projects. Third, the program is flexible in providing for specialty support courses that allow students to build a biotechnology background that is most appropriate to their long term interests and career goals. Students have the flexibility to select coursework and research experiences that are specialized in medical, plant, animal and microbial biotechnology. This makes the Agricultural Biotechnology degree, truly, your degree.
