Mystery Picture #34
Novice
I chirp like my cousin Jiminy by rubbing my wings together. While he lives on the ground, my brothers, sisters, cousins, and I live in trees and feed on leaves. As a group, we are responsible for most of the chirping you hear on a summer night. Did you guess my name? I am a Tree Cricket.
Expert
I have sucking mouthparts that I use to feed on plant sap. I hop (and fly) from tree to tree, which helps to give me my common name: Treehopper. Our eggs are laid in slits that are cut into twigs and ends of branches. This page is maintained by Pat Dillon, Department of Entomology, University of Kentucky.
