Technical Requirements for Producer Participation

  1. Individual Animal Information

    1. First owner name
    2. EID tag
    3. Visual ID
    4. Birth month and year (actual birth date is strongly encouraged)
    5. Calving ease score (encouraged)
    6. Hide color
    7. Sex
    8. Castration date (encouraged)
    9. Implant product 1st and 2nd
    10. Implant date 1st and 2nd (encourage)
    11. Weaning weight (require/ strongly encourage)
    12. Weaning date
    13. Sale weight (require if no weaning weight, otherwise encourage)
    14. Sale date if applicable
    15. Vaccination and boostering (follow CPH-45 or more strict program guidelines)
  2. Sire Information

    1. Permanent (visual) identification
    2. Registration number
    3. Breed
  3. Dam Information

    1. Dam ID (visual)
    2. Breed
    3. Hide color

Listed above is the information that producers need to provide in order to participate in the Five State Beef Project. Virtually all of the information is available from records programs such as CHAPS, health programs such as CPH-45 or others. Items that have the word “encouraged” by them are not mandatory but should be determined and provided for best information. All other items are required for participation. For year 2, the cost of EID tags and Carcass Data Collection Service Fees will be cost shared between the project and participants on a 50-50 basis. In year 3 and subsequent years, producers will be expected to bare all costs of data collection. All carcass and other data collected will be compiled into a report with management suggestions and provided to individual participating producers.
