Sorghum/Sudangrass

  • Sorghum/sudangrasses were planted on May 6, 2002.

  • Frost occurred on May 19, 20 and 22. Freeze (24 F) occurred on May 22.

  • Sorghum/sudangrasses were harvested down to a 4-inch stubble in 10 ft x 10 ft sections to obtain weights.  Forage samples from each variety were sent to the Kentucky Department of Agriculture for analysis.

  • Cattle were given access to all varieties at the same time. The cattle grazed the DeKalb SXG at 50 lbs/A seeding rate first. This preference may be due to the seeding rate. The sorghum that was grazed the most was PS210 BMR.
