Jack W. Buxton,
Associate Professor

My research interests include controlled environments and understanding the effect of the environment on the physiology of greenhouse crops and utilizing this knowledge to more efficiently control the environment for maximum crop productivity and minimum production costs. My current research includes 1) development of the Controlled Water Table irrigation system for plug, pot and hydroponic growing systems. 2) Predicting carbohydrate concentration in greenhouse crops based on the daily integrated light intensity and then controlling the night temperature based on the predicted accumulated carbohydrate concentration.

My teaching responsibilities include the following courses. Introduction to Horticultural Professions, 1 credit hour; Greenhouses and Controlled Environments, 3 credit hours; Greenhouse Floral Crop Production, 3 credit hours; and team teach Plant Production Systems, 4 credit hours. My additional responsibilities include Coordinator of Horticulture Undergraduate Program, undergraduate advising and Co-advisor for Horticulture Club.
