Tom Cottrell,
Extension Specialist for Enology

As the UK Extension Specialist in Enology, my job is to help the 40 or more Kentucky wineries make good, consistent wines. I got started in the wine industry in the Napa Valley, founding Cuvaison in 1970, and co-founding Pine Ridge Winery in 1979.

In 1982, I became Cornell University’s first Associate Professor of Enology. I am delighted to continue to consult as SWAT - Small Winery Analysis & Technology for wineries and winery start-ups in the Finger Lakes, on Long Island, in Pennsylvania, and other parts of the East, Midwest, and South. A member of the American Society for Enology and Viticulture since 1970, I served as Secretary of the Eastern Section in the 80’s, and more recently as a Director.

I am based in Lexington, KY.
