Blue ash

Fraxinus quadrangulata

A characteristic feature of the Bluegrass region is the large blue ash trees standing alone or in small groups in open fields and pastures. It is also common along the Kentucky River palisades and other regions with a limestone soil base. Nowhere else in the United States does the blue ash occur in such abundance. Many of the floors in old homes in Lexington, KY are made from blue ash wood.
