Kentucky bourbon barrels

White oak is one of the most significant trees in Kentucky forests. It is the dominant oak in many Eastern Kentucky areas. The wood from white oak is an important timber crop for building and furniture manufacturing. Most notably, white oak is the wood used to make wiskey barrels used to age Kentucky bourbon. It is currently the State Tree of Maryland, Connecticut and Illinois.
