Kirk W. Pomper,
Adjunct Assistant Professor
I am a Tree Fruit Physiologist and Molecular Genetist. We are interested in developing high-value horticultural crops for limited-resource farmers in Kentucky and the
United States. The major project of the horticultural program is the development of the native American tree fruit
pawpaw as a commercial crop. Additional crops are also being investigated for their potential as high-value crops
for Kentucky.
Current research efforts at KYSU, in cooperation with the Pawpaw Foundation, have been directed at variety
trials, cultural recommendations, clonal propagation, and germplasm collection. This pawpaw information web site
has been developed as a medium for the delivery of new information concerning orchard culture and available
genetic resources.
