This report presents the summarized 2014 performance data, both financial and physical, on 271 Kentucky farm businesses. The data for this study are drawn from the detailed financial and production records of producers cooperating with the Kentucky Farm Business Management Program. The data are not drawn from a random sample of farms in the state. Every attempt has been made to select a set of farms for these research studies which are 'typical' operations and have complete financial information available for analysis. It should be noted that farms included in this study are representative of commercial farms producing major commodities and livestock, but not of all farms in Kentucky.

There were 271 farms represented in the final analysis of the Kentucky Farm Business Management Program for 2014. Of these 271 farms, 60 farms (22% of total) had 3,729 operator acres of burley tobacco, 42 farms (15.5% of total) had 693 operator acres of dark air-cured tobacco, and 38 farms (14% of total) grew 1,830 operator acres of dark fire-cured tobacco. Average production from all types of tobacco was among the highest over the last five years. This was a rebound from 2013 levels which were the lowest in at least four years. Of the five regions reporting burley tobacco production, the Pennyroyal region reported the most farms (and acres) of burley production and the Ohio Valley region reported the highest average yields for burley and dark air production.

The 2015 Preliminary Grain Farm Analysis is based on data collected through March 21. The Summary 1) compares data from KFBM grain farms to the projections presented at the December 2015 Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting Press Conference; 2) compares performance for a specific set of grain farms for 2014 and 2015; and 3) examines the effect of tobacco revenue on KFBM grain farm profitability.
