Program and Prototype: Fourth Year Studio
| In this project, students were asked to consider alternatives to traditional suburban development for a 200 acre parcel of land in Lexington. The design for this site had to balance public and private space needs within a high net-density solution by integrating as many as six different housing prototypes. Students had to consider open and recreational space opportunities, land-use and density mix, circulation (both vehicular and pedestrian), natural infrastructure, as well as a proposed transit line bordering the east side of the property. |
| The objectives of this project were to: develop an understanding
of traditional and contemporary residential site planning and design concepts
for medium and high-density housing; apply understanding of residential
site planning and design concepts to address the physical and social needs
of residents within the context of a given site; further refine definition
of “community” in the mind of each student
