The first greenway we studied was the Stowe Recreation Path located in Stowe Village in northeastern Vermont. The idea for a seven mile recreational trail for the community evolved in 1964 but was not actively pursued until the citizens got the ball rolling a few years later. By 1984 2.7 miles of trails were completed on 27 donated easements. Five years later 5.3 miles of the Stowe Recreation Path was completed at a cost of $680,000.
