Cunila origaoides, Dittany; Helenium autumnale, autumn sneezeweed; Aster Novae-Angliae, New England aster; Cephalanthus occidentalis, Buttonbush; and Kalmia latifolia, mountain laurel, have been added to the collection of western Kentucky native plants with potential as ornamental landscape plants which already includes: Spigelia marilandi, Indian Pink or Pinkroot; Cimicifuga racemosa, Black Snakeroot or Cohosh; Bignonia capreolata, Crossvine; Silene virginica, Fire Pink; and Quercus phellos, Willow Oak.
Kalmia latifolia, mountain laurel - found in Land Between the Lakes, KY, appears to be very drought and heat tolerant. We will try to propagate Kalmia from seeds collected in 2001, then collect seed in the fall of 2002.
