Novel new crops with potential for Kentucky production include hops

Novel New Crops

Objectives:

    Novel new crop opportunities

  • To develop novel new crops and/or new cropping systems for farmers that contribute to the long-term sustainability of agriculture in Kentucky. This includes hops and edamame (green vegetable soybean).

  • Production of novel new crops will complement successful and sustainable cropping systems in Kentucky.

  • New cropping systems will be evaluated that result in a new market outlet for existing products.

  • Development of chia as a new Kentucky crop

  • To evaluate a high value potential new crop, chia - Salvia hispanica - for yield and seed quality characteristics.
