Objectives:

Gluten strength of soft red winter wheat lines

To determine the gluten strength of advanced winter wheat lines from a cross between strong gluten and weak gluten parents.

To assess the potential of gluten strength as a value-added breeding target by estimating its heritability.

Impact of fusarium head blight on gluten strength of soft winter wheat lines

Evaluate the impact of FHB on gluten strength and water holding capacity as predictors of milling and baking quality in an array of soft wheat genotypes

Soft white winter wheat in Kentucky: Impact of seed coat color genes on added value and resistance to mycotoxins

To evaluate 8 elite soft white winter wheat breeding lines in replicated multi-location testing.

To evaluate the utility of newly available DNA markers in identifying single gene red (1-R) wheat lines in order to compare them with white wheat sister lines.

To determine the role of seed coat color and flavonoid level in Fusarium head blight (FHB) resistance of near isogenic red and white wheat lines.
