Researchers are evaluating 8 soft white winter wheat breeding lines

Wheat

Objectives:

Soft white winter wheat in Kentucky: Impact of seed coat color genes on added value and resistance to mycotoxins

  • To evaluate 8 elite soft white winter wheat breeding lines in replicated multi-location testing.

  • To evaluate the utility of newly available DNA markers in identifying single gene red (1-R) wheat lines in order to compare them with white wheat sister lines.

  • To determine the role of seed coat color and flavonoid level in Fusarium head blight (FHB) resistance of near isogenic red and white wheat lines.
