Severe Field Damage From Black Shank and Drought

Black Shank incidence was the worst that anyone could remember in 2002 in the Burley Belt.  A wet start to the crop and the resulting root damage coupled with a severe drought in many areas increased the damage due to black shank.  Proper crop rotation away from infested areas, resistant varieties and the use of fungicides containing mefenoxam ( Ridomil Gold or Ultra Flourish) are advised.
