LIFE CYCLE: Warm-season perennial; new growth begins
in February or early March; produces seed in September and October;
becomes dormant (brown) in October.
MAJOR CHARACTERISTICS*: Shallow-rooted; spreads by
seeds and above-ground green stems (stolons) (A); slender (wirey)
stems are very knotty at the node; tiny inconspicuous flowers and
seeds on upright branches; leaf blades less than 1/4 inch wide and 2
inches long; grayish green color; forms brown patches in winter.
