University of Kentucky 2007 Small Grain Variety Tests

Seven wheat tests for grain production (72 entries).

One wheat test for forage / straw production (72 entries).

Two barley tests (40 entries) Logan and Caldwell Co. conventional sites.

1. Purchase Region - Fulton County - No-Till. Planted 10-13-06; photo 4-12-07; 4-24-07. This test looked great in March, but sustainedsubstantial Freeze Injury. Wil be used to evaluate effect of freeze on yields.

2. Western Coalfield Regoin - Caldwell County - No-Till. Planted 10-10-06; photo 4-12-07; 4-23-07; 5-7-07. Another excellent test severly damaged by Freeze Injury. Will be rated for hardiness, yield potential of secondary tillers...

3. Ohio Valley Region - Webster County, Conventional tillage:. Planted 10-25-06;. photo 4-27-07; 5-7-07; This test was planted later than many tests - cool weather durning November slowed development and may have saved test from Freeze Injury.

4. Bluegrass Region - Fayette County (2 tests)

Conventional: Grain & Straw test; Planted 10-30-06; photo 5-4-07 - no freeze damage

Wheat Forage Test. Planted 10-30-06;

5.Southern Tier (2 tests)

Logan County, Conventional. Planted 10-24-06;. Photo 4-12-07. Test sustained srvere Freeze Injury.

Todd County, No-Till; Planted 10-14-06; photo 4-12-07; 4-23-07; Test sustained severe Freeze Injury.

6. North Central Region - Larue County, No-Till. Planted 10-24-06; photo 4-12-07; Some leaf tip burning & stem damage associated with freeze.
