CECIL R. ISONForest Archaeologist, USDA Forest Service, Daniel Boone National Forest, Winchester, Kentucky

 

Cecil began his career in archaeology in 1974 working on a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lake project in Trinidad, Colorado.  Prior to his employment with the U.S. Forest Service he was a staff archaeologist with the University of Kentucky’s Cultural Resource Assessment Program.  He has worked for the Forest Service since 1980 and has been on the Daniel Boone National forest since 1983 currently serving as Forest Archaeologist.  His work includes demonstrating how archaeological resources have important practical applications to an ecological approach in land and resource management.,

 

His fire experience includes numerous and varied assignments on wildland and prescribed burn fires.  His current work involves researching the role prehistoric anthropogenic fires played in the development of modern forests.

 

Cecil serves on the Kentucky Native American Heritage Commission representing governmental cultural resource issues.  He received a B.A. in Anthropology from Adams State College in 1977 and a M.A. in Anthropology from the University of Kentucky in 1981.
