Shake Cloth Procedure
| Soybean insects can be detected by shaking the soybean
plants over a cloth placed in the row middle.
|
- Place a white or light colored cloth on the ground between rows.
Kneeling at the edge of the cloth, reach on the outside of one
of the rows, and bend about 24 inches of row over the cloth.
- Shake the soybean foliage vigorously for several seconds to
knock insects onto the shake cloth.
- Repeat the same procedure on the other row.
- Quickly count and record the number of insects that fell from
the plants.
| |
| Having shaken the plants on each side of the cloth, you
have sampled four feet of row.
