In the Manner of...:  Combined Second and Third Year Studio


Some projects must rest solely on their functional value, and in those cases quality is based on competence, elegance, and simplicity in organizing function.  Other projects present the opportunity to invoke spiritual, aesthetic, philisophic, personal, ecologic, or other values that enrich the spaces that are designed.  Landscape architects and other designers search for inspiration that can raise their work above the mere functional satisfaction of a given program.
In this project, students were asked to look to art as a source of inspiration for spatial composition.  Students studied various artists' concepts of space, symbolism, perspective, and composition in order to develop a three-dimensional representation of the work.
