As you travel through or visit downtown Lexington during Homecoming week, note the presence of UK through the blue lights in the trees and banners on the light poles, at the Courthouse Plaza and elsewhere.

Paint the Town Blue Competition
(Painting Begins Saturday, October 13th at 8 am and concludes Monday, October 15th at 8 am. Windows to remain decorated through Sunday, October 21st)
Check out the painted windows on campus and surrounding local businesses, artwork of various UK student organizations showcase "The Blueprint - Building on Tradition."

Sunday, October 14

DanceBlue 5K
Registration 1 - 2:30 p.m.; Race at 3 p.m., Commonwealth Stadium
The DanceBlue 5K is a Homecoming tradition. DanceBlue is a student-run philanthropy which raises awareness and funds for the UK Pediatric Oncology Clinic. Come be a part of the 5K to learn more about these brave children and families and to run for the kids! Monday through Thursday, Oct. 15 - 18

Float Build
8 p.m. – 12 a.m., Blue Lot Extended of Commonwealth Stadium
All student organizations that are planning to participate in the 2012 Homecoming are asked to build their floats together in the Blue Lot Extended of Commonwealth Stadium. This building area is meant to increase the feeling of community throughout this time of tradition at the University of Kentucky and will boast music played by a DJ each night as well as an opportunity to bond with fellow Wildcats during an exciting time. Preparations, such as the construction of props, may be made outside of the build location, but ALL assembly (actually placing all props and any pomping on the float) MUST take place at the specified location during specific hours.

Paint the Town Blue Picnic
11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Location TBD
Join the Student Activities Board for a Homecoming lunch and enjoy the gorgeous painted windows featuring this year's Homecoming theme "The Blueprint - Building on Tradition." Windows will be decorated and sure to get your UK spirits going!

Homecoming Pep Rally
8 - 10 p.m., Wildcat Alumni Plaza
Help us kick off Homecoming Week at the Wildcat Alumni Plaza located off Avenue of Champions, directly across from Memorial Coliseum! In addition to other activities, there will be appearances by former players, cheerleaders and the UK Band.

Kitty Karnival
5 p.m., South Campus Courtyard
Kitty Karnival features small carnival games created by student organizations for children to come and enjoy on campus. Going on its 7th year, this event has become a UK and community tradition that both students and children love to attend! This event welcomes local schools, UK Alumni family and UK faculty, staff and student families.

Mo Betta Basketball Game
7 p.m., Seaton Center
A men's basketball game to rival all others, the Mo Betta Basketball Game is a student's verses alumni battle. Winners receive bragging rights for the year! The game is a huge tradition for the Black Student Union. Be sure to come and support your favorite players!

Wednesday, October 17

Mr. and Mrs. Black UK Pageant
7 p.m., Memorial Hall
Dating back to the late 1980's, the Mr. and Ms. Black UK pageant is a competition that includes a talent section and choreographed dance. Student competitors wow the crowd with an array of talents every year.

College of Education Golden Wildcats, Emeritus & Alumni Homecoming Lunch

In honor of our Golden Wildcats and emeritus faculty, the College of Education invites all COE alumni to attend a Homecoming lunch at the Griffin Gate Marriott Resort & Spa. University of Kentucky Wind Symphony Concert
7:30 p.m., Singletary Center for the Arts, 405 Rose St.
The UK Wind Symphony, under the leadership of Director of Bands Dr. John Cody Birdwell, is the elite concert ensemble from the University of Kentucky Band Program. This evening's program will include the American premiere of a composition for solo trombone by New York City composer Anthony Barfield. Featured soloist will be Bradley Kerns, professor of trombone at UK.

'Paving the Way' at the Plaza

The UK Alumni Association invites you to enjoy a morning with the newest campus celebrity — the Wildcat sculpture at Wildcat Alumni Plaza — as you take a look at the pavers in the plaza purchased by loyal alumni and friends. A professional photographer will also be available to take your photo with the regal Wildcat. You will be able to purchase this photo on site for $5 per photo. If you haven't already purchased a paver, you may do so during this day, as well. As a bonus, enjoy a light breakfast as you stroll the plaza!

Wildcats, join us for festivities throughout the day at Keeneland's North Terrace! Don't miss vocal performances by UK students, the Wildcat mascot and cheerleaders, former UK football star and current Denver Bronco, Jacob Tamme and more UK fun. The first 200 UK Alumni Association members who show their membership card at the UK Alumni Association table in the north terrace will receive a free gift. Catch all the racing action while enjoying a buffet lunch in one of Keeneland's best locations. Situated high atop the grandstand, the Phoenix Room offers a view overlooking the Paddock. * Please note that the Phoenix Room has a dress code. "Equinomics": The Economic Climate of Kentucky's Signature Industry

In this session, Professor C.Jill Stowe will discuss the current state of affairs in the Thoroughbred industry and the importance of the growing recreational and sport horse segment of the equine industry. Homecoming Royalty Crowning and Wildcat Cup Winner Reveal
Halftime of Game, Commonwealth Stadium
Homecoming Royalty will be announced during the Homecoming football game. The Court goes through two rounds of difficult judging focused on academic and involvement at UK and in the community before a student vote decides the new King and Queen.

The Wildcat Cup is a Homecoming spirit and participation competition for all student organizations. Student organizations can attain points through participating in numerous events throughout Homecoming Week. Winners in multiple categories will be announced as well as the overall winner for Homecoming 2012.

Singletary Center presents 'Live at Birdland' featuring the Birdland Big Band directed by Tommy Igoe

Named after famed alto saxophone player Charlie Parker, nicknamed "Bird," Birdland was founded in NYC in 1949. The list of performers who were regulars at this iconic jazz club reads like a who’s who of jazz: Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Stan Getz are just a few who made Birdland their New York home. The night will feature fresh treatments of iconic Charlie Parker compositions, as well as innovative arrangements from composers such as Chick Corea, Arturo Sandoval, Sting, Herbie Hancock, Lennon/McCartney and Leonard Bernstein.

WUKY presents Capitol Steps
7 p.m., Singletary Center for the Arts, 405 Rose St.
Thirty years ago, the Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. In the years that followed, many of the Capitol Steps ignored the conventional wisdom (“Don’t quit your day job!”), and although not all of the current members are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a total of 18 Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience.
